  1. From what version of the Bible are these verses quoted?

Amazing collection. Do you ever post anything on that Preterist Archive site?

  2. These verses were originally collected by someone named David Green, and were originally published on the Preterist Archive website. The owner of the Preterist Archive has now repudiated preterism and has removed Mr. Green's verses. View old page. View current page. No, wait a minute, I found it. The new page is here. It now has a warning. Fascinating that a collection of Bible verses would have a warning.

  3. The translation used for each of those verses is whichever one translates the Greek word mello as "about to."

  4. Thank you for directing our attention the applicable part of the Preterist Archive site. It's rather discouraging that none of these people are able to maintain these positions that certainly seem to square with the Scriptures but go against the current institutionalist positions of Church and State.....I guess that is just a less cogent way of stating your comment that a collection of Bible verses would have (need) a warning????? Do peers and prestige dictate the truth?

  5. How are you defining "preterism", because the owner of the Preterist Archive site is an "Idealist Preterist."

  6. I define "preterist" as "not a partial preterist."

International Preterist Association - What is preterism?

I leave a definition of "idealist preterist" to the advocates thereof. Your mention is the first I've heard of it.

Preterist Idealism @ PreteristArchive.com, The Internet's Only Balanced Look at Preterism

"Only balanced look" ?? I'm already skeptical. And the more I read, the more red flags I see. One source on that page says that when Paul saw Christ on the road to Damascas, that was a "coming" of Christ, so therefore AD 70 (I don't even know what the "therefore" is; it's not stated clearly). (I don't like theological positions which cannot (or will not) be stated clearly.)

What does an "idealist preterist" believe that a "full preterist" cannot believe?

I suspect that there are things the "full preterist" believes that an "idealist preterist" will not believe, so why does the idealist cling to the label "preterist?"

  7. I can't speak for IP's because I don't buy it. My point is that there are some who would, like Gary DeMar, use it differently and who would include your interpretation. Gary holds the term generally and includes HP, IP, FP and PP's in the mix. So I guess you could use Preterism in a broad sense like DeMar or you could just speak of you're own interpretation as the "only balanced" position.

You seem to be doing the same thing the IP site does in claiming you're position as the "real" one. Fine... I know you're convinced you've got this one down... just use a distinction for the sake of the audience.

From my confused perspective there seems to be a bunch of guys calling themselves preterist and claiming their own interpretation to be more true than the others. Dispi's do the same thing.

So I think if you want to be "clear" as you say, you should call yourself by the tribal preterist name you like (Full-Preterist, Hyper Preterist, "radical"-preterist), so people like me can know what type of preterism you're talking about. You wouldn't want me to confuse you with R.C. Sproul would you? jk.

You know I know what type you are... I just find it interesting that you just blow all the other interpretations off as if their nothing... maybe they are...

  8. Gary DeMar has described himself as "partial preterist." I think this is accurate and communicative.

When partial-preterists describe themselves as "preterist," they will then describe consistent preterists as "hyper-preterists" or "full preterists" -- or even (half-graciously) "consistent preterists."

Partial preterists are willing to use the phrase "partial preterist" to describe themselves, and that logically means that the term "preterist" should belong to those who are fully preterist, not just partially preterist.

This seems honest and obvious to me.

Define Preterist at Dictionary.com This definition goes back a few centuries.

To describe someone as "idealist preterist" doesn't tell me if they are "partial preterist" or full preterist, which is where the real debate is. "Idealist" just seems to muddy the waters.

Nik: You seem to be doing the same thing the IP site does in claiming you're position as the "real" one. Fine... I know you're convinced you've got this one down... just use a distinction for the sake of the audience.

I don't know what distinction you want me to use. I distinguish between "preterists" and "partial preterists." I have never used the term "idealist preterist" because I don't even know what that means or to whom it refers.

Gary DeMar complains about those who put him in the "hyper-preterist" camp. He says that's like the Arminian who lumps Calvinists and Hyper-Calvinists together.

The difference is, no Calvinist would ever admit to being a "partial Calvinist," while DeMar admits to being a "partial preterist."

DeMar calls himself a "preterist" when he's contrasting his position with dispensationalists, and a "partial preterist" when he contrasts his position with full preterists.

If I use the term "preterist" and people think I'm in Gary DeMar's camp, I don't care. Gary DeMar cares. He wants to make sure people realize he's ONLY a partial preterist. He should use that term.

  9. I think YOU should use the word FULL, CONSISTENT or HYPER, the neo-platonic crowd can use the word IDEALIST and Gary can use the word PARTIAL. I'm the referee!!(jk) LOL
