Day 30: Of Christ the Mediator, part 6

8.8 To all those for whom Christ has purchased redemption, He does certainly and effectually apply and communicate the same;[q] making intercession for them,[r] and revealing unto them, in and by the word, the mysteries of salvation;[s] effectually persuading them by His Spirit to believe and obey, and governing their hearts by His word and Spirit;[t] overcoming all their enemies by His almighty power and wisdom, in such manner, and ways, as are most consonant to His wonderful and unsearchable dispensation.[u]

[q] John 6:37,39 — All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. Ver.39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
John 10:15-16
— As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. Ver.16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. [John 8:47 He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.” John 10:26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.]

[r] 1 John 2:1-2 — My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: Ver.2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
Romans 8:34
— Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

[s] John 15:13,15 — Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ver.15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
Ephesians
1:7-9 — In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; Ver.8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; Ver.9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself.
John 17:6
I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

[t] John 14:16 — And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.
Hebrews
12:2 — Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
2
Corinthians 4:13 — We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak.
Romans 8:9,14
— But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Ver.14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Romans 15:18-19
— For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed, Ver.19 Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.
John 17:17
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

[u] Psalm 110:1 — The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
1
Corinthians 15:25 — For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. Ver.26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
Malachi
4:2-3 — But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. Ver.3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord of hosts.
Colossians 2:15
— And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Q. 26 How doth Christ execute the office of a king?
A. Christ executeth the office of a king, in subduing us to himself,(1) in ruling(2) and defending us,(3) and in restraining and conquering all his and our enemies.(4)

(1) Acts 15:14,15,16 — Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. Ver.15 And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written, Ver.16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up.

(2) Isaiah 33:22 — For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us.

(3) Isaiah 32:1,2 — Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment. Ver.2 And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

(4) 1 Corinthians 15:25 — For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
Psalm 110 —
The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. Ver.2 The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. Ver.3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth. Ver.5 The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath.
